Playing
Do customers need to download an app?
No. The game opens from the button on your website or from a QR code, right in their phone's browser. They can add it to their home screen if they like.
How do customers sign in?
They enter an email and get a six-digit code, so there's no password to forget. The first time, they pick the name shown on the leaderboard.
What does "against the spread" mean?
The favorite has to win by more than the posted number. If Kansas City is −5.5, picking KC wins only if they win by 6 or more. Picking the underdog wins if they lose by 5 or fewer, or win outright. A game landing exactly on a whole-number line is a push.
Which sports are included?
NFL, college football, NBA, WNBA, college basketball, MLB, NHL, MLS, Premier League, Champions League and Liga MX. You choose which ones your bar shows.
Where do the scores and spreads come from?
From a live sports data feed. Spreads fill in when you publish the week's games and lock at kickoff, and scores update every minute during games.
Running it
Will it work with my website?
Almost certainly. Any site that lets you paste a code snippet works, which includes Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, GoDaddy, Shopify, Toast websites, Weebly and Duda. No website at all? The QR table cards and your game's own link work without one.
How much time does it take each week?
A minute on Monday to approve next week's games, and handing over the prize. Grading and the leaderboard are automatic.
Can I make people come to the bar to play?
Yes. Turn on the at-the-bar check and players need today's code from your TVs, table cards or bartender. You can also let anyone play but require the code to claim a prize.
Who owns the customer emails?
You do. Players who join your game are your customers. You can download them anytime, and we never sell or share your list.
Rules and legal
Is this gambling?
No money is wagered and no purchase is required, so it's a free-to-play contest, the same idea as a pick'em sheet on the wall. Prize contests are regulated by each state, so have your attorney review your rules before offering a prize. In Florida, for example, promotions with more than $5,000 in total prizes must be registered with the state first.
Do players have to be 21?
You choose. Most bars require players to confirm they're 21 or older when they sign up, and SportsPlay asks by default.
Do you write the contest rules?
The setup wizard writes a draft from your settings: the prize, how winners are picked, how to claim. It's a starting point for your review, not legal advice.
Still deciding?
We'll walk you through it with your own bar's name on it.
